The Cause of Yeast Infection Development

The cause of yeast infection development has not been pinpointed to a single source or condition, but instead has been correlated to a number of different potential causes.

The variety of yeast infection that you develop will clearly determine what some of the suspected causes for the yeast infection are. By understanding what may cause an infection, you can behave proactively in some instances, and work toward avoiding the development of a Candida infection entirely.

In other instances, knowing the cause of the yeast infection is vital since you will need to address the cause to banish the symptoms of the infection.

Causes for Vaginal Yeast Infections

The typical causes cited for the onset of vaginal yeast infections include:

  • Antibiotic usage

  • Birth control via oral methods

  • Hormonal fluctuations

  • Immune system deficiencies

  • Low acidic levels

  • Menopause onset

  • Menstruation

  • Periomenopause onset

  • pH imbalances

  • Pregnancy onset

  • Stress factors

  • Use of perfumed female hygienic products

Conditions that are perfectly natural for a woman are also conditions that serve as ideal times for Candida overgrowth. Pregnancy, menstruation, pre-menopause, and menopause are all normal conditions where hormones, pH balances, and acidic levels inside the vagina change. Such changes make the vagina a likely location for Candida to overgrow and to flourish.

Stress plays a role in how strong one’s immune system is; if the immune system is weakened then yeast infections are more likely to occur. You will want to therefore lower your stress levels, not just to avoid yeast infections, but for your well-being in general.

The use of antibiotics is often followed by a yeast infection directly after the antibiotic course is completed. The latter issue occurs because antibiotics will destroy the natural bacteria that control Candida overgrowth. The onset of a yeast infection will commonly follow the use of things like Ampicillin and Tetracycline.

Birth control via oral methods directly affects a woman’s natural healthy hormone levels. Since oral birth control pills have estrogen in them, estrogen levels may become too elevated; the increase in the hormone makes a suitable environment for yeast invasion.

More Causes of Yeast Infections

Women, of course, are not alone when it comes to yeast infection development. Men and children also manage to develop the condition and it will require treatment via at home means or medical means in order to be remedied. There are some people that are more likely to get the infection however. Such individuals include:

  • Diabetics: If you have diabetes that is not being properly managed the amount of sugars that become present in your urine, in your blood, will increase and sugar levels also increase, if you are female, in the vaginal area. Repetitive yeast infections occurring within the vagina, on the body and the mouth can actually be an indication that you are suffering from a diabetic condition requiring treatment.

  • AIDS Patients: An immune system that is not functioning properly will have a far harder time managing Candida growth. Corticosteroids use has a similar affect on the body and one’s ability to keep Candida under control. Candida overgrowth can therefore quickly become systemic and present itself in the blood, on the skin, in the skin folds and in the mouth, throat, and the esophagus.

Additional causes include:

  • Contact with the infected: It has been estimated that up to fifteen percent of all yeast infections are the result of having sexual relations with someone that has the condition. Candida infections are in no way identified as a disease that is sexually transmitted but one person does have the capability of infecting another through intimate contact.

  • Poor Nutrition: The individual that partakes of poor nutritional practices is often subject to yeast infection onset. Too many sugars in one’s diet, an over indulgence in carbohydrates, and overindulgence in alcohols, especially wines, can be the source of a yeast infection. In the case of sugars and carbs, yeast actually uses such substances to grow and to reproduce. When it comes to wine products, yeast is actually used in such products during its production. Refraining from too many sugars, sweets, carbs, and alcohol is recommended whenever a yeast infection erupts.
